Prohibited Items
- Hazardous waste: Paint, solvents, chemicals, pesticides
- Flammable materials: Propane tanks, gasoline, oil
- Electronics: TVs, monitors, computers (e-waste)
- Tires: Car, truck, and bicycle tires
- Batteries: Car batteries, lithium batteries
- Appliances with refrigerant: Fridges, freezers, air conditioners
- Medical waste: Needles, syringes, pharmaceuticals
- Asbestos-containing materials
Where to Dispose of These Items
The City of Toronto offers several programs for safe disposal:
- Household Hazardous Waste Depots — for paint, chemicals, batteries, and electronics
- Community Environment Days — seasonal collection events
- Tire recyclers — many auto shops accept used tires
